Sorry computer at home is dead, thinking of finally going to a Mac there, anyway access is limited to my time at work.

I use I think it's 3 1/4 ounce Dacron, it's the middle weight uncertified aircraft fabric from Aircraft Spruce, I'll look it up and get back to you.

You're observation was correct for the initial build in this method, I was looking for a way to use a single ply of fiberglass on a kayak but the Dacron is much like a poor man's Kevlar, it imparts a toughness to the layup that the fiberglass alone doesn't have.

For maximum abrasion resistance I'd go with that 3 ounce Dacron and 6 ounce glass. It's what my first trial boat is done with and it's pretty hard to damage. It looks really just like new now after 6 years of use (I think, time has a funny way of getting away from you). If you pre-coat the Dacron with resin and let it harden before you lay up the glass it's still pretty light weight. My long Sea Ranger at almost 19' only weighs 38 lbs. and that was the first try using this method, I could drop 5 lbs. easily off that, still it's silly light for an almost 20' boat.
