There is no structural reason that you should not have facets. Facets will theoretically add stiffness.

The main reason I would avoid leaving obvious corners, is that it will make it much more difficult final sanding of the fill-coats without cutting into the cloth at the high pionts or 'corners'.

Also any future surface preparation down the years for refinishing will be likewise more prone to cutting into the corners.

I don't think I'm explaining this very well. OK - imagine 3 strips, each 3/4" wide, along the side of the hull. Before you sand anything, if you look at the cross-section you have a straight line, an angle, a straight line, an angle, and a straight line. If you then get out the ROS and smooth out those edges, you have a shorter straight line, a curve, a shorter straight line, a curve, and a shorter straight line. If you continue sanding, you can flatten the curves and shorten the lines until you finally achieve a single, continuous smooth curve.

My question is if you actually need to take it that far, or if short straight line, gentle curve, short straight line, gentle curve, etc. is OK. My observation is it seems to be fine - that even if a close look with a straightedge shows you haven't got a fully continuous smooth curve, that by eye and touch it's barely perceptible. But that's what I'm wondering.
