I've been using Macs for about 30 years now. I started when I worked as an engineer for the Navy. My department in the lab where I worked used Macs so when I got my own computer I went Mac so I could cumshaw software. (The image below is my receipt for my first Mac. Prices have come down.) Before it I had a Zenith Z-100 running version MS-DOS with two floppies, one for the OS and application, the other for data. No Winchester Drive as they called a hard drive.

At the time Mac had mostly had better software for what I did, except for CAD. I got MiniCad around 1990 and have used it ever since, it changes to VectorWorks at some point.

For hull design I used MacSurf, initially a Mac only naval architecture package, which eventually became MaxSurf and went Windows only. I bought a Windows machine so I could continue to use MaxSurf but spent most my time on the Mac.

At this point there is pretty good App parity between Windows and Mac, but the CAD situation still favors Windows slightly. I run VMware to access Windows and MaxSurf. I've been playing with Fusion 360 a bit which is available on for any platform. It is pretty slick, but not quite ready for prime time.

I don't have any advise for a new-to-Mac user. You just need to give it a try and see what messes you up, then ask questions.
