Two pieces of advice. The Petral has flat sections on the bottom or at least not round like a half circle. Make sure if you bend the ribs, you have flatter sections along the center bottom. It very easy to make a SOF that is a nightmare with low initial stability. A 20" wide kayak with a totally round bottom is very tender let along an 18" wide one. My point is: its easy to get carried away with bending and forget to flatten the center sections.

I think Brian Nystrom had a jig that accomplished that. If you're on this Brian, you can pass along a link. I did a similar thing but nowhere as sophisticated.

2. Its hard to build a bad kayak. If you're fairly symmetrical, you will be fine if your thoughts are to just shorten an existing book plan.

Lastly... "Teacher, leave the kids alone" They're smarter than all of us.
