Well, based on the opinions expressed, I think I will make the skeg and control, mainly because I want to see how it works.
I will most likely not install it but I may decide to cut out an oversize slot in the hull and fill it with epoxy just in case I decide to install it later.
Next step is to see if I can round up the needed materials (cable, tubes, fittings, etc.)

Thanks for all the opinions and ideas...
