Mike,

Look at the picture.
It is not consistent.
Some patches are dark and some are not.

The reason for this is that at the dark places, the varnish has gone all the way thru the skin, and makes contact with the frame.
I assure you that where the skin goes over the gunwale, the skin is touching heavily for 15'.

If the varnish would evenly go thru the skin and contact the gunwale and stringer all along their length, I would be very happy.

I have not been able to get a consistent color, either light or dark.

If I ever build another, I'll probably use oil as suggested.
