Good and very useful information. Thanks to all of you.
Appears that a second layer might add only 1 1/2 pounds, or, at the heaviest, less than 2 pounds.
That makes the extra protection seem worth the extra weight to me.
And actually, the cloth I cut and weighed was a full coverage second layer. To cover only to the waterline would be even less weight gain.
