I considered that but I'm a little leery about dye bleeding through any tiny gaps in the strips to the exterior. A stain that's "in the seam" between strips is not readily sanded away. Maybe a liberal application of wood filler, then sanding back to bare wood would address that?

If your hull exterior is already glassed, the wood will not absorb the dye through the interior gaps.

BUT it's always good to test first on a spot on the hull bottom.
