The graphite/silica mixture does make it slippery but not to the water, nothing really does that. It does make it slippery when the kayak is sliding over hard things like rocks, logs etc. I've had it on my NDK Greenlander for several seasons and it looks pretty much just like it did when I first applied it and it has a tough life getting used for all sorts of rough paddling and abuse.
