I've compared some commercial pumps I own and I recall that they were all about the same capacity- about 3-400 mL per upward stroke.

As I said, under half the capacity of my pump.
I've read that some kayak clubs in NZ and OZ require electric pumps on club outings because they've found that hand pumping takes too long and is too tiring, but that may be internet 'fake news'.

Some Ozzie clubs. None that I know of in NZ require that. Because of my experience with electrics (I'm trying right now to fix our caravan's submersible toilet supply pump) I'd not trust an electric pump to be reliable. Is the battery sufficiently charged? Is the wring corroded? Are all connections reliable? When last checked (less than a day previously)?

One hears of "rudders might break", "decklines break" etc., how does anyone expect something complicated like a pump to be reliable? Or, if owners can't get reliable equipment or maintain it, how would you expect them to have reliable pumps?

The comments about rudders and decklines of course refers to commercial poorly designed and fitted items.
