Sorry if this is a dumb question...

With the bungee hold-down lines, the unloaded tension and loaded tension are in the same direction, towards the centerline, so there's one obvious orientation, the loop "pulls out" but does not "pull up."

For perimeter lines, though, in the unloaded state the tension is towards the centerline (the line wants to straighten out, the fastener resists a sheer-to-center force), but when a swimmer grabs onto it, they're pulling the opposite way - force is away from centerline, fastener resists a center-to-sheer force).

So that means in one state the web loop "pulls out but not up" and in the other it "pulls out and up," which seems like it's weaker. That said - in Dan's picture I'm not seeing any "pulling up" - but it's hard to tell.

Do I have that right? Does it matter?
