I also used to use something similar, but I had two fail, and changed to Maroskes.

Both failed in the same way, from a very strong, sharp blow, not from simple load. Once practising rescuing, once during an actual rescue, both times coming alongside the other kayak a bit too fast - but speed is good in a rescue situation, and of course every kayak has lines to grab and hold, right? :-)

I now make Maroskes with a 10mm od tube, so that two lines fit easily, and apart from the time to make them and the weight penalty I really do consider them the ideal fitting.
