I don't do skegs but if the cables are like motorcycle/bicycle cables you should get a motorcycle cable lube tool. They have a fitting that goes around the end of the disconnected cable. There is a port through which you squirt your lubricant. Cables actually have a large surface area and bends which cause friction. Use the lightest lube possible to cut down on friction and build-up.
Usually around ten dollars or so.
