I've got one for wiser heads than mine. I've got a Yost Sea Rider with a polyester fabric hull, coated with PL Premium adhesive and finished off with good ol' Rustoleum paint. It's tough stuff.
So imagine my amazement when I discovered a good four inch gash in the fabric, close to the cockpit, cut right through the fabric. On the bright side, I've had a chance to discover exactly how tough this build method is; I can't rip the hole any further with my bare hands. I'm not going to discuss the darker side of the hole and its creation, since it's all speculation as to how it was created, and the likely suspects claim to know nothing.
I'm in the middle of a build already (a Mess About for my mom), otherwise I'd just rehull her before the warm water season hits proper. I'm not likely to get both the build and the rehulling done in time for the season to start.
What are my chances of being able to support the gash by stitching both sides... then, because I should be able to reach it from the cockpit, slap a PL Premium covered scrap of polyester against it on the inside. I'll lay some parchment paper down on the outside, then press the fabric down with a parchment covered weight on the inside (keeping the adhesive from expanding the patch away. Slap another coat of paint on the gash, and I think I'll be good.
Anyone want to poke (another) hole in that theory? ;o)
