Seat and thus backrest position is more about balance of the weights in a kayak, moving the seat back will upset the balance since you (or anyone else) weighs considerably more than the boat. Have to remember that on a kayak the backrest is a crutch, you're far better to learn to sit upright and not use it.

There was a time when that was possible, but after two back surgeries not having a back band really isn't an option.
