I can't see the pictures at work, but the "vinyl" molding on many production boats is actually an "H" channel that holds the deck to the hull. So...if you remove it you can destroy the hull/deck.

The H channel holds the hull and deck together until the mat (and glass cloth over) is put on the seam on the inside with resin. The H channel extrusion doesn't add any strength.

Removing (part of, or all of) that channel molding and replacing it with epoxy/glass fibers/cabosil with a couple of layers of glass tape would make the boat stronger. But, it's not necessary unless there's a reason, like failure of the extrusion.

BTW, the 'H' isn't symmetrical - the inner 'legs' are much shorter than the outside part which shows.
