I recently purchased a used Pygmy Borealis. Even with the larger cockpit opening, getting in and out was tricky for me as I'm a big guy. I built my own seat out of minicell foam, and then experimented with where I put it. I know from experience that just 1" of added height from the hull bottom in terms of seat height/thickness can really throw off your center of gravity and make a stable boat seem tippy.
Much to my surprise, I was able to move the new seat back a full 3" from where the builder had originally placed the seat, and there has been no impact on how the boat paddles. I'm an ex football player, so definitely larger and heavier legs play into this. Needless to say, not only is my new seat much more comfortable, but getting in and out is much easier now.....
