If you use the anthropometric measurement system that's typically used for traditional Greenland-style boats, it's essentially self-compensating since it's based on your body measurements. If you build a boat that you can fit in, it will likely have plenty of capacity. With SOFs, you're free to make any adjustments that you want, so it's easy to increase the volume.
SOFs are somewhat less than ideal for camping, due to limited access to the available storage space. It can be done, but it's more of a hassle than with boats with bulkheads and hatches.
