When I use an external strongback I like to strip the sheer and get close to the strongback before removing it. Maybe overly cautious but that is me.
Always used Tightbond and no worries. What heat are you concerned about?
How you terminate the deck strips is up to you but I avoid exposed end grain as much as possible on the first couple strips.
