Well I want to see if I am going about this the right way, So I need some input. I have a 12 foot perception pascador kayak. I want to protect the keel from the concrete boat ramps I launch from and the unseen oyster beds I try to avoid. I bought some herculiner bed liner paint kit from a big box store and decided to do a test area. Test A was clean the bottom and use denatured alcohol to clean it up and paint a small test strip. Well once it dried I could peel it off pretty easy. Test B was does the same clean but use a blow torch to smooth the surface out, I heard it was called " torching", well it seemed to sick a little better but I am not too comfortable with putting an open flame to a plastic kayak. My latest thought would be to put a thin metal strip on the bottom using 3M 5200 to adhere it but was unsure if it would stick. As you can see, I am looking in every direction to find something that will do the job. I don't abuse my kayak but understand it will get scratched but after 200 scratches in the same spot it will not be a good thing. Thanks for you input and info.
