I bought a set of diamond (plate) set at Harbor Freight many years ago for $10., always figuring I would get a better set in a while. Well ... thats at least 12 years a go and they stil work fine. i'm sure a new set would cut faster but I can still hone my planes and chisels just fine. Besides, I would just get a fresh set. I have oil stones from years back but these diamond plated ones work great. I wish they would just make longer ones. BTW you use water with them. I use a angle honing guide with it and I made a holder so I place them in my vice. I'm sure there's better ones for more money and you can weight that out for yourself, but I was in HF for something else, saw them and was happy with the purchase for the price.
