There won't be a deck, or mastic.
It's a canoe, so open frame.
White oak is what is available to me.
In the overall build at the very least I'd use white oak for the ribs, the stems, yoke, seat frame, and a rub rail on the outside gunnel.
That leaves the keel, the stringers and inwale.
Using white oak on these instead of cedar (or other options?) what do you estimate the weight difference would be?
If it's a 1 pound difference I'd consider that negligible.
If it's a 5 pound difference I'd renew my search for another option.
My main concern is using green white oak and it's behavior after steaming and lashing.
I wonder as it dries over a year or so will it crack and twist?
The saw mill says it's a newly fallen tree.
They will cut it next week and I can get boards rough cut to my needs.
