Sure, but there's the long game and the short game. It's sickly pinkish purplish when it's fresh, but it gets dark really fast, and even mineral spirits won't overcome that and show you how dark it will get. So how will it look after a season? Same thing with dye, but in reverse. It will fade. So the guessing game...
