But yours are just decorative on top of a plywood substrate, Et. :-)
I can't get cedar at all, so I have taken to using Paulownia, which is a bit softer and lighter than cedar. I use this for the coaming lip as well, but covered with fibreglass inside and out, and have had no problems.
