The difficulty, or ease of work, of every step of the building process stands on the shoulders of the step that went before.

Consistent strip thickness makes it easier to align strip edges. Taking the time to align strip edges, along with ensuring strips are in contact with forms, will mean your hull surface is fair from the start.

If your hull is fair to start with, very little additional surfacing is required.

If you can't cut consistent thickness strips on your table saw then running them through a thickness planer is a good option.

Personally I like the saw marks on my strips, which show me a clear indication of when my wood surface is changing from rough to smooth when I'm sanding.

Pay attention to details and you'll have less problem solving to do.
