While I am a big fan of people paying me to get a copy of my plans, I will say that none of my plans would exist if I had been of the mind that all the good kayaks had already been designed.

And while I also get impatient with people who ask "will it make a difference if I build Design X a foot shorter?" I don't think for a moment that my designs are perfect for everyone.

All kayaks are iterations on previous ideas. I don't feel a need to get precise measurements off an existing design before using those ideas for something of my own design, but studying a lot of different designs, and using them to see how they perform can be informative for coming up with innovative ideas.
