: I am considering build the coaming lip "body" just like the lip
: itself, that is, using a bent laminated collar that I can fit in place
: easier.

That's my plan, too, Marcelo. I don't think it will be easier for me (I have electricity nearby) but I like the look of the laminated coaming riser.

: And, indeed, I've got another question: Is the coaming lip height the same
: all around the cockpit? Maybe, the sawn coaming lip should define a flat
: plane in the space, and because the recess has a curvature, we should
: reconsider giving the whole coaming lip the same height.

Yes, the coaming lip should be roughly the same height above the riser all the way around the cockpit. You can use narrower strips which will bend vertically easier. You really don't need a 7/16" thick lip. 1/4" thick would be fine if you're going to fiberglass it anyway.

: I ask this because when the coaming lip is sawn, we'll have to follow the
: contour of it with thin and long strips, to build the lip itself. I don't
: know how cooperative these strips will be, if we have to copy not only the
: "plan view" but the "elevation view". In other words,
: not only following the curve of the cockpit but the elevation of the
: recess!

If you're patient, you could just put on one strip per day, which would be easier than trying to keep 7 or 8 strips together. It will take longer, but I plan to use 1/4" wide strips on the outside of my coaming ring. Keeping 8 of them stacked together, and winding them around the coaming riser would be like trying to catch a greased pig!
