Doug,

Once the wood is sealed - regardless of the method the stain won't be able penetrate and will therefore just wipe off and fail to stain the wood. So the correct sequence would be to stain first - then seal - then varnish.

I think epoxy will stick to stained wood - won't it?

BTW - you may find that varnishing is more difficult than painting. At least that was my take on it.

: Another dumb question, can you seal the plywood deck of your boat with
