Hi again Doug;

Wood flour mixed with epoxy produces an opaque, dark coating. Even my "white" spruce dust turns pretty dark in epoxy. I would say no to this approach. Any work you do on top of the epoxy should be "artsy," in the sense that people put faux wood, marble, etc. finishes on walls and trim - That is what the surfboard people do, and assume that it does require a bit of technique. If you can make a practice piece that turns out good, you're way ahead of the challenge.
