Try to find some doors out of old houses. I was told that they were made mostly of douglas fir in the old days. I have a bunch that I am going to try to use for my next kayak. And they will be very stable also. I am building my Guillemot from Douglas fir tha once was louvers/room dividers in a house built in the early 50s, and the wood was great.
