Drew: I also made a cockpit cover from rip-stop nylon with the assistance of my wife who did the sewing. We used essentially the same technique as described by David in the previous message. One suggestion: leave the shock cord long enough to secure it to a fitting inside the kayak (using a spring clip) because the nylon is slippery and can easily blow off if there are cross winds causing turbulence. My wife bought the nylon which was only a few dollars, and you don't need much shock cord. Good Luck
