Pat/Bill,
I agree that dropping a skeg/rudder can make a welcome change at the end of a long paddle while Bill's point about the ease of edging the King makes me aspire to be a better paddler! My first boat has a rudder and its great but my next boat won't get one. I really like the profile of the King and if I can save a few pounds thats a good thing too.
Mind you, a skeg can relatively easily be added after the fact, so I may build without and add the skeg later if I find a need.
