Here's another thought on the topic...
When i stripped the deck on my Spring Run, I also found that my center strip was slightly off center when measured from the chine and that I would not have exactly the same number of strips on each side of the centerline. However, the stripping pattern I used concealed it almost entirely.
My stripping sequence was the the center strip first followed by the 1st strip on each side working up from the hull. Next was a strip on each side of the center strip, the a strip working up side from the hull. So, you alternate one strip working down from the center with one strip working up. The strips finally converge under where I cut out the cockpit opening hiding the difference in number of strips needed on each side.
Admittedly, it was only off by less than one strip, but if you look closely at the light wood inserts on the sides, one side is slightly longer than the other. But, you would have to know that or it would never show up to anyone but a builder with a really keen eye... Other screw ups where joints dont fit perfectly look much worse and it seems that only I see those when showing it off to others. I think we builders are way more critical of our boats appearance and workmanship than anyone else.
