I am retired and took up kayak building a couple years ago. My first build was Nick Schade's High Deck Night Heron - LOVE that kayak. I paddle in the Midwest - Lake Geneva, WI and Lake Michigan in Door County.
Just finished Dave Gentry's Chuckanut 12s SOF, and am going to build the Disko Bay SOF. My first build, Night Heron, was to have a kayak that would keep up with my (younger) hard core paddlers - it worked. :-) I recently switched to a Greenland paddle which I really, really like the paddle.
