I have been wanting to build one of Guillemot Kayaks strip-planked boats since his first book came out. I am finally getting to the point where that may be possible. Ready to join the club!
I paddle in the North Central (DFW) Tex area. Mostly large lakes that are prey to high winds and chop (prevailing winds from the south and southeast at 10 miles per hour is the norm). I'm 5'4" and hover around 155 pounds. I currently paddle a Necky Manitou (12'10"). It weather cocks pretty bad and is at the wind's mercy when it does pick up. I still enjoy it but am ready for a yak with better performance. I spend a lot of time making course corrections and I would like to cruise on open water for long hours without killing myself but still have the ability to poke into all the shallow coves. And I would love to learn to roll.
