: Hi Dave,
: When I do mine with vertical strips I like to sand the strips first
: before the fillet. Then form the fillet with thickened epoxy and
: install the bias cut glass right into the fresh epoxy fillet..
: This forms a great bond between fillet and glass. Be sure to cut
: the glass on a bias, so the strands are running on a 45. This
: helps the glass to make the bend at the fillet plus all the
: strands are adding to the strength of the joint.
: If you have Nick's first book Strip Built Kayak It is covered in
: great detail in the book. If you don't have the book it's a must
: have.
: Good luck,

I have completed the cockpit. Vertical strips sanded smooth inside and out, and bottom end sanded smooth inside to match deck. The lips is installed, sanded and radiused. I realize now that this is the incorrect sequence but, at this point I am not sure how to finish. My plan is to install the epoxy fillet on the outside between deck and risers next and cover with 4.5 oz. bias cut glass.
I am thinking of installing glass from the outside bottom edge of the lip and out over the top of the deck 2-3 inches and then running the deck glass over the top of this layer up to the risers then laying a couple layers of glass from 3-4 inches under the deck to the top of the risers and painting epoxy on the remaining edges of the lip. Is this understandable and is it acceptable?? Better ideas??
Thank you
