: I was able to get a $22.00 mostly clear, western red cedar 18 foot
: 2 x 12 from a local home improvement center. It was sold as
: landscape quality. With the help of a neighbor who is a
: professional woodwooker, I was able to rip it into full length
: strips. I cut these in half lengthwise. The hull, shown wetted
: out for final sanding, is full length strips from the shear line
: to the lighter strips near the center. From there to the final
: strips of the keel, I used strips from another "landscape
: quality" board, and had to cut out a couple of knots. I
: have saved the nicer part of the board for the deck.

: Of course, part of my luck with getting good wood comes from living
: in the Pacific Northwest.

I guess I have a different attitude than most of you guys. I enjoy building boats not driving and sorting through lumber piles. I order 1"10"x10' clear cedar from the local lumberyard. It arrives the next week - perfect boards, $40 each:)
