Strip: perils and pitfalls of heatguns
Just started stripping a new kayak; put my cheater strip on, then my first near-shear strip, using the heatgun to relax the strip at the upswept ends. Works like a charm, btw - but I managed to melt the plastic tape I use as a release barrier on the forms. Could be a problem when I get to the epoxy stage, eh?
I fixed the offended barrier, and now hold the strip out a bit while heating it. But it's not quite as elegant a method as holding the strip around the curve of the preceding strip, and exactly heating/bending the new strip.
Any way to have it my way?
