: A simple solution, if your planer is wide enough, is to feed
: multiple pieces through it, staggered so they overlap by a foot
: or so. You can even sandwich your stock with thin pieces of
: scrap on each side.

: If you can afford it, the ultimate answer is to get a planer with a
: spiral carbide cutter head. They last a long time and each
: cutting element has four edges that can be rotated into place as
: necessary. They're also much quieter. I installed one on my
: jointer and the difference is huge. Unfortunately, nobody makes
: one for my Dewalt planer.

I use a 1/4"x12"x8' plywood strip with a cleat that is thinner than the boards being planned, glued across the plywood, 4" from one end. Lay the ply strip on the planner, lay the boards to be planned on the ply strip up against the cleat and run them through the planner. No snipe as the ply strip supports the boards being planned completely through the machine.
