I've been scouring the Home Depot cedar decking section. If you look hard enough, you are bound to find some decent pieces of lumber. (This is where I've gotten the WRC for all my Greenland paddles) I did not have nay luck with the 12' and 14's but I've managed to find some really nice 10' lengths which will give me a bit of wiggle room when it comes to staggering the scarphs.

My concern is that the scarf could be stiffer than the surrounding woood which can throw of the natural curve off the gunwales and chines, therefore you'd try to place them where there is less curve.
