I've used an iron on medium heat to remove the gaskets from my drysuits with great success and no suit damage. I think the big thing to watch out for is the type of material that your suit is made of. Suits, like the Kokatat Tropos, with the urethane coating, require special care not to overheat the fabric. I've replaced gaskets on both Tropos-like materials as well as Goretex-like with no incidents.
