I just did a test this morning using black inkjet printer ink (liquid). I whipped up an ounce or so of epoxy and added a few drops of ink. When I stirred it up, it was pretty black but after I applied it to the test glass, it came out a dark grey. This is just a test to see how the epoxy reacts to the addition of the in so I did not want to add too much ink. The ink, as you may guess, is very thin and made no difference to the viscosity of the epoxy - a good thing. But in the meantime, if this works, I am thinking that subsequent coats will become closer to black. Even if the final coat is not really black, that makes no difference as the boat will be painted anyway.
I'll have to wait until I get home from work to see how the test went.
