I think it's an inherent trait with builders to feel the need to point out the "deficiencies" with our work before someone else notices them and brings them to our attention. A friend of mine is a fine boatbuilder but when he talks of his boats, the first thing he'll do is mention the things that didn't go to plan. I am the say way. People will compliment me on my boats and the first thing I'll do is point out something wrong. Of course, the other person did not/would never have picked up on the flaw! Go figure!!
We are too hard on ourselves. Do you think the first kayak builders were fretting over 1/8 of an inch?? These aren't pieces of fine furniture we're building - well, at least not me anyway.. If it's strong and paddles true, then you're laughing, so to speak!!
