Or if you just go with regular glass and epoxy and then finish with a sanding and painting, you overcome the issues of not having nice looking butts (ooo la la!!) Here's my coaming done with 10 layers of 6 oz glass (yes, I said 10) and tinted (black) epoxy. Once I had the coaming all nice and sanded, I finished it with a few coats of spray-on truck bed liner. This liner material comes in a aerosol can and is not the thick lumpy stuff but rather it dries to a nice matte black - like a thick paint.

I went with reverse psychology, i.e., having the coaming stand out by being matte against the gloss of the deck. I like it and and liner is very durable, yet easy to touch up should I need to.
