: Yes you can trim the cable and plastic cable housing to length. In
: fact, I used bike lube on the cable because of its waterproof

Thanks Kevin. I had some slight binding within the box and I lightly sanded the small ridges as well. Nice and smooth now. I went with the flanged model. I simply cut the recess into the 4mm plywood bottom of the boat and then reinforced the inside with glass and epoxy (3 layers of 6 oz) to make up for the loss in hull thickness and then recut the slot in the glass. The flange fits in nice and flush and all I had to do was run a fillet of thickened epoxy around the skeg box inside the hull. It will look "factory" once I sand the hull and repaint.
