I'd put packing tape or some other plastc covering over it before trying epoxy - just my two cents.

Year ago, I lost the whole face off my watch (one with actual hands) and I put packing tape over where the face should've been. It worked fine but every now and then the hands would stick to the tape - D'Oh!!!
