: I am just finishing off [painting the hull in my Point Bennett Chop
: Project. I'm going with Interlux Brightsides again. The
: manufacturer recommends 2-3 coats. I just put the third coat on
: and looks really good. I am just wondering if subsequent coats
: will be of any benefit?

: I'd also like to point out that I went with a different approach to
: applying the paint this time over the past few times I've used
: it. It is suggested that you use the roll and tip method to get
: a good smooth coat. I used this the first two times I painted
: with this stuff and got mixed results. I would paint a few feet
: with the roller and then stop and do the tipping with a foam
: brush. Repeat until the whole boat was done. For some reason,
: you could always see where the I stopped rolling and started
: tipping - even after the paint dried. It almost deterred me from
: using the paint again this time. Oh, room temps were generally
: in the high teens to low twenties Celsius- so it's not like it
: was drying too fast.

: Fast forward to this current project. I started to roll with a
: smooth foam roller but instead of stopping to tip, I simply
: continued from bow to stern completing half the hull with the
: keel as a border. I was getting ready to go back and tip the
: paint when I noticed that all air bubbles were slowly
: dissipating - event though the roller was creating quite a few.
: After a few minutes the paint had completely flattened to a
: perfectly smooth surface. I did not bother to tip but went on to
: finish the other half of the hull. Again, no tipping and
: everything flattened out nicely. Turns out to be the best
: painting job I've done to date. All three coats worked out great
: so it was not just a fluke!!

: Now, on to the deck!!

: Just my experience.
