Strip: Tweaking the Bomars

I installed the Bomar deck plates on my Black Pearl last year but was having issues with leaking. I decided to tackle this problem just recently and created a blog entry on the process.

I know that some will say why did you go with the Bomars in the first place? Well, they are a very nice setup. Yes, they are heavier than Becksons but they are very well built. Because of this, I was able to apply heat to bend them and they will retain that shape. Unlike the screw-in Becksons, these will not seize shut if sand gets in the threads - because there are no threads. The locking mechanism holds the plate shut and will not self-release. I've seen many make the wooden tool to remove the Becksons but you don't need this with the Bomars. And yes, the Bomar coaming is deeper than the Beckson and cuts into valuable storage space, but I don't carry anything in my Black Pearl other than my lunch!!

Anyways, I'm off to the pool tonight to give it a sound testing. Wish me luck!!
