Well I guess this project is a go. Just took the kayak out for a third 10 min spin, without any seat this time, and found the kayak is much more stable. It seems seaworthy enough to warrant refinishing and adding a seat. When I add either the orange stadium seat or the blue seat cushion, both measuring 2 3/4 inches high, I notice the kayak becomes much more tippy. Question: Anyone know of a kayak seat in the $50 to $75 range they can recommend? Have seen several on Amazon, just don't know what to get. Something not more than 1 inch high in the seat. Have heard of a back strap but don't really know what they are and how they compare to a regular seat back. Also, what are the differences between low and high back seats?

The photos of the uneven cockpit show that it is the recommended egg shape, wider in the stern. As you can see it is not symmetrical. I also think the center line of the cockpit is not aligned with the center line of the kayak. Drawing the shape needed and centering it on the kayak is where Nick's book I just ordered, will have it on Friday, will come in handy. Anyone know of a You Tube video showing how to draw an egg shaped cockpit opening? Have only been able to find videos showing how to add combing once the cockpit opening has been cut.
