Thanks Bill, that is exactly what I needed to hear about epoxy. I suspect the person who made the kayak did not use epoxy, hence the poor bonding to the wood. Although I am not rebuilding this to make money, I don't want to put more into it than what I can sell it for.

The kayak is sea worthy and worth rebuilding. I have been paddling it for a couple of weeks now and it is surprising how much more stable the kayak has become. The kayak has not changed so I guess my sense of balance has improved.

My CLC order to complete this kayak, with the happy bottom seat, a performance back band, knee braces, 8 yards of 4 ounce fiberglass cloth, 1/2 gal of MAS epoxy, 1 quart of hardener and 1/4" bungee cord with hardware is $280. I paid $100 for the unfinished kayak so my investment will be $380. I would be surprised if I could not sell this kayak for more than $380. I may not get my time back but certainty should get the money back.

On another note, the value of the kayak to me, having built it, will undoubtedly be more than what someone else is willing to pay. Who knows, I may end up keeping the rebuilt kayak.
